Stories on a plate

Role: DOP & Editor
Length: 21 minutes
Organisation: Milton Keynes Islamic Arts and Culture Charity

Tayeb طيب also known as "Stories on the Plate", was a pilot project created by the Milton Keynes Islamic Arts and Culture Charity. The project brought attention the friendship among women of diverse communities, especially refugee and migrant families. The charity used workshops in order to help women identify their roles in creating affectionate networks that are a fundamental force for making new homes.

The film follows one of the participants of the workshop, Waed, and depicts the food preparation of a traditional dish Maklouba during a family gathering for eating and chatting inside Waed's own home. The film captures Waed’s testimony of fleeing from her home in Daraa, Syria and building a new home in Milton Keynes through her beautiful friendship with Caroline.

Screened on 17th December at MK Gallery, with speeches delivered by the Mayor of Milton Keynes , the artists, Waed and members from the Red Cross.
